Glassboard for Android: Help Us Test the New Invitation Process

Since the release of Glassboard earlier this year, we've been thrilled to see the many ways people are using it. We've seen teachers use it to privately share notes with their students, families use it to share vacation photos with their extended families, co-workers use it to talk about a project they want to keep secret, and on and on.

It has been very gratifying.

But we've also heard from people who find it too hard to get started. They love the idea of having private boards where they can share with only the people they choose to share with, but it's just too cumbersome to invite people to their boards.

We hear you, and we agree. The current process of inviting people by entering their email address requires far too much typing, and given the unreliability of email it's just too error-prone. So we've added a much easier way to invite people.

Instead of inviting people by email, you can now share an invitation code - on Twitter, Facebook, or anywhere you choose - and anyone who knows the code can request to join your board.

Here's an example: I have a private board for those helping me test Glassboard for Android, and I chose to create an invitation code for this board so that others can ask to join it.

I receive a notification when someone uses this code to request to join my board, and I can approve or deny their request - so I'm still in complete control of who gets to join my board.

If you're an Android user who has the ability to install non-market apps, you can try this yourself by clicking this link from your phone to download and install a beta version of Glassboard for Android. After you've installed it, click "Enter Invitation Code" at the bottom of the board list and use the invitation code ckanq to request to join my "Android Testers" board.

Once you're in, feel free to share your feedback about the Android app - I'd love to hear it.

Note: Glassboard for iPhone with invitation code support is in limited testing, so for now you'll want to only share invitation codes with other Android users. Both apps will be in their respective app stores at the same time once the beta is over, so this is a short-term limitation.
