Using Mozilla in TopStyle - a fix!

I recently blogged about the support problems I've had with TopStyle's Mozilla integration, so I'm very happy to see that Adam Locke has addressed these problems by providing a separate installer for the Mozilla ActiveX Control.

This installer takes care of registering the Mozilla ActiveX Control, which should resolve many of the problems my customers have reported regarding using Mozilla inside TopStyle. If you're using TopStyle and have trouble using Mozilla inside it, I strongly recommend trying this installer. To avoid overloading Adam's server, I've uploaded it to the following location on my site:

Note that this is a stand-alone install based on Mozilla 1.5, and it's separate from any existing copy of Mozilla/Firebird.

FeedDemon 1.0 RC4a

I've just uploaded FeedDemon 1.0 RC4a, which is the final final release candidate :) Details are at:

As always, bug reports should be posted in the feeddemon.beta newsgroup on the news server news.bradsoft.com. When posting a bug report, please state that you're using RC4a, and also include the exact steps to reproduce the problem.

For now I ask that you withhold suggestions for new features. I'll welcome your feature requests once the final 1.0 is out, but right now my focus is on fixing problems.

TopStyle Pro and TopStyle Lite

I've recently come across a number of comments from people who believe that TopStyle is included with HomeSite and Dreamweaver MX, so I'd like to set the record straight.

Both HomeSite and Dreamweaver MX include TopStyle Lite, which is a free, very scaled-down version of TopStyle. The Lite version is a basic, one-file-at-a-time CSS editor designed for inclusion with third-party HTML editors.

TopStyle Pro, on the other hand, is not included with HomeSite or Dreamweaver MX. Among the many features in the Pro version that you won't find in the Lite version are:

• HTML and XHTML editing


• Style checker to check your CSS syntax
• Style upgrade to convert deprecated HTML (include font tags) to CSS
• Site reports for site-wide style reporting
• Full-screen preview
• Integration with HTML Tidy, CSE HTML Validator, W3C HTML Validator, Watchfire Bobby
• Style sweeper to format your CSS
• etc., etc., etc

If you're still using the Lite version, I hope you'll download a trial of TopStyle Pro to see what you've been missing!

Safari 1.0 CSS Definition for TopStyle Pro

A Safari 1.0 style definition for TopStyle Pro 3.10 is now available (free, of course).

Just download this ZIP file and unzip it to TopStyle's \CSSDefs folder, and the next time you run TopStyle you should see "Safari 1.0" listed as a choice in TopStyle's "Style Inspector."
