This morning I had separate visits with a physiatrist and a neorosurgeon, and both are recommending that I undergo surgery as soon as possible. Apparently, my cervical disk herniation is worse than I thought, and the pinched nerve is causing muscle atrophy and weakness in my arm. Left unchecked, it could result in permanent damage.
I'm still researching my options, but I'm fairly certain that surgery is in my future, possibly as early as next week. Man, it's hard to believe that a few weeks ago I was enjoying running 8-10 miles at a time, and now I'm flat on my back looking at surgery.
