My musical tastes lean towards the "loud and obnoxious" variety (for example, Avenged Sevenfold's latest CD has been blasting from my speakers this week). But despite not being my style of music, this performance by Nicole Atkins blew me away.
If this woman isn't the next big thing, then there's something wrong with this country (via Rogers Cadenhead).
You find sources of information in the unlikeliest of places. I wouldn't have thought that Nick's blog would have led me to new music, but I've just ordered an import (to the UK) of Nicole's CD.

Her voice reminds me of Mama Cass. I have her "Bleeding Diamonds" EP and I was really impressed by both the songwriting and her style. Excellent stuff.

She sounds like Edith Piaf!
I prefer Amy Winehouse ... but quite a voice here!

Glad I could help. There's an old-school vibe to a lot of new female singers these days I find extremely appealing. Her delivery reminds me of Corinne Bailey Rae's "Like a Star." Are you going to SXSW?

@Rogers: Unfortunately, I probably won't be at SXSW this year. I'd love to go, but I have to limit the number of conferences I attend or else my kids will forget who I am :)
